Rational and reflection

Rationale

For this project, we approached the brief for the Neighbours day by creating a games night that we would then use as our overall theme. We used different games as visual and conceptual inspiration for our rhetoric and narrative. We believed that this approach would be the most appropriate for the target audience consisting of all ages and types of people as it would be a light-hearted way of representing a serious issue of preparing for an emergency. We thought a hand drawn, cartoon style was best suited to represent our narrative as it would be the most visually engaging and would make neighbours excited to get involved in the event rather than it be a chore.

Our poster concept is inspired by the game of Guess Who as it plays on the idea that you should know who your neighbours are rather than playing a guessing game. This theme is developed through the rest of our forms of media and is resolved in our card game as a way of neighbours connecting with one another through the physical exchange of details.

Reflection

We worked well as a team and I am proud of our final result. Our concept feels strong. We struggled with colors and aesthetic throughout the process but resolved this by experimentation. I enjoyed designing the website and making the illustrations. If we had more time i would have loved to make a video or motion graphic of how the game would work.

Finished card game

Made the card game. Here are photographs of the actual thing (these will go on the website) and the layouts

Finished Poster.

week 5.2

Made a pretty drastic change to the colour theme. Like it a lot better, its not so in your face and has a much friendlier feel. I made worked on all 5 pages of the website, the cards and the poster while Greer made the homepage for the website, invision and packaging of the cards.

To do:
Play with boldness of colours, its a bit wishwashi.
Make real game out of cardboard and take pictures.
change text on poster and get it printed.

Week 5.1 Interim number 2

These are all the things we will be showing at interim presentation tomorrow, plus the website on Invision.

Feedback:

Poster: Handwritten font is good but needs to be clearer, play with colours of house and backgrounds, made it more obviouse that its supposed to be a house, but make game also stand out, add tagline, dont put blue ob blue type, watch contrast

Website: Colours are a bit to much, not friendly, looks like insurance, corporate, make it look softer and cleaner, homepage not as strong as other pages, text layout could be spaced more.

Takeaway: cool idea, play with design, maybe house shaped.

Week 4.2

Made more illustrations for the website, Greer is mocking up the website from my example from last class. We talked about/ sketched the takeaway component (cards). I'm gonna re-illustrate the poster, make it more exciting. Also did some research on web design and transmedia.
